About igus

igus is a manufacturer of components made of high-performance polymers for motion, based in Cologne (Germany). We have been developing and producing motion plastics, innovative products made from lubrication-free plastics, since 1964. These include energy chains, cables, plain bearings, lead screw technology, robots and intelligent sensor technology, which help our customers to improve their technology and reduce costs. Most products are manufactured using the injection moulding process, from which the company name is derived: igus = Industriespritzguss (industrial injection moulding).

Our vision is to create a world without lubrication - with durable, maintenance-free plastic for movement that are CO₂-neutral, generate no waste and offer our customers the simplest collaboration: technically better, economically more favourable, ecologically sensible.

This is how CEO Frank Blase summarises the vision of igus. Our customers, for whom we are constantly realising new ideas, are at the centre of everything we do. Every year, we invent well over 200 new motion plastics products, always with the aim to improve what moves. We want to create durable products for motion that are lubrication-free, reduce weight and provide new, better solutions. We want to bring Cost down and Tech up in machine tools, cleanroom applications, cars, solar systems and much more.

How sustainable are motion plastics?

As a plastics processing company, we see it as our duty to use resources sustainably and protect the environment. Our motion plastics products can make an important contribution to this - during production, in use and at the end of their service life. Two topics are particularly important to us: CO2 neutrality, i.e. the direct impact on the climate, and zero plastic waste, the avoidance of plastic waste and the associated recyclability of our products.

Recycling of plastic and more

We are driving forward various recycling measures to achieve our goal of zero plastic waste. With Chainge, for example, we have developed a recycling platform on which technical and industrial plastic can be recycled. On the RCYL platform, we offer bicycle components and bicycles made from recycled plastic. We promote the new HydroPRS technology, which enables the chemical recycling of plastic. Our apprentice company reguse is dedicated to recycling discarded electrical appliances. And, of course, we also offer various products made from recycled materials.

The flexible igus factory

Our factory in Cologne Porz-Lind is something very special. It was designed by the British architect Nicholas Grimshaw and follows our guiding principle that the customer is at the centre of everything we do. The building is therefore supported by sun-yellow pylons that reach far into the sky and can be seen from afar. The factory is also designed for maximum flexibility, for rapid growth and quick changes. It has no internal walls and can therefore be remodelled and easily expanded at any time.
