Smart networking of individual components creates the solid foundation for predictive maintenance concepts. At igus®, we call our predictive maintenance system i.Cee. The central element of this system is the i.Cee software. This software, combined with sensors on the energy chain, the plain bearing or a linear carriage, transform stock products into smart products. This upgrade enables you to determine the maximum service life of your igus product and the i.Cee system specifies the perfect time for servicing. Algorithms adjust the service life and service time according to usage. The software we provide plus a few sensors transform standard products available from stock into a smart energy supply system or smart bearing technology in no time.

A smart box! New i.Cee module for predictive maintenance with smart plastics

Cologne, 17th May 2021 - with the i.Cee:local module, igus has now developed a new home for its smart plastics software. The module calculates the remaining service life of the energy chain, cable, linear guide and plain bearing during operation. This allows the service life of the system to be optimised, faults to be detected and rectified at an early stage, and maintenance to be planned in advance. With its multi-connectivity, i.Cee:local can be integrated via the Internet or without IoT connectivity via the local network, depending on customer requirements.

    Excess clearance between a chain link's bolt and hole is a clear indication of the decreasing service life of an e-chain®. This sensor measures the clearance in unambiguous percentage increments and sends them to the i.Cee:plus module. The remaining service life is calculated from movement data from the system's control system and replacement recommendation can be made.

    The i.Cee:plus II module is installed in the control cabinet of the machine or directly in the machine. It collects the sensor data of the energy supply system or the plain bearing and transmits them to the i.Cee software.

    In individual project business, the sensors in the energy chain or plain bearing can of course also communicate directly with your company software. Due to the direct connection between the sensors and the company's own software, this constitutes the most complex, but also the most customised solution.

    Your data never leaves your corporate network, since the i. Cee software communicates only within the networks you want it to.
    The options range from an energy chain within a single machine to a machine park and your own output interface.

    This internet-based solution has two options. In the first, your data is transferred directly to the cloud, where it is made available in a protected area that can be accessed with a browser dashboard. In the second, the data go to an intermediate location on the i. Cee.net: a so-called data concentrator. The i. Cee.net is at your location, allowing you to stop or adjust data exchange with the cloud at any time.
