When the lights go out and the curtain is raised, nothing must go wrong on stage. The actors have to rely on the lighting and technology around them to set the scene perfectly. To ensure that this works smoothly, the municipal theatre in Ingolstadt has installed the folded energy chain in the zig-zag system from igus. This enables the lighting rigs to be moved safely.

As an alternative to the zig-zag system, for cable guidance igus offers the e-spool spring cable drum, which is used in numerous European theatres.
The e-spool is installed above the stage and rolled up like a conventional cable drum. However, as the energy chain is supplied via a so-called twisterband, this system does not require the use of slip rings or sliding contacts. Unnecessary connection points can therefore be reliably avoided. If the technology rig is shut down, the chain unwinds accordingly.
In Ingolstadt, however, it was not possible to install the e-spool, as all the elements are attached to a metal grid below the ceiling and there is not enough space for a cable drum.
