Maurizio Sciascia, design engineer at Östling, has found an elegant solution for conveniently opening and closing the door, which provides good access to the work area from three sides. The door is guided in two vertically mounted telescopic rails from motion plastic specialist igus®, which were originally developed for horizontal use, e.g. in extensions. The door remains exactly where the operator wants it because it is connected to a counterweight via a cable system, which also runs in drylin® telescopic rails at the rear of the housing.
The result is a very smooth movement and therefore pleasantly easy operation. This solution is also cost-effective, as befits an entry-level device. Not least because the components used are part of the standard igus® low-profile guide system programme. Furthermore, as is usual with all bearings from igus®, it does not need to be lubricated with oils or greases. In addition - and this is crucial for laser applications - a tight seal between the door and housing is guaranteed. The telescopic rail leaves no gap through which the laser beam could escape. This means that no separate seal is required. Maurizio Sciascia: "Another advantage is that the aluminium track only requires a very limited installation space and still allows the door to be opened completely." From an aesthetic point of view, the drylin® NT-35 telescopic runners are also impressive, especially as the base plate of the AIOBox is also made of aluminium.
