drygear strain wave gear RL-S-17

Light and efficient: drygear® strain wave gear RL-S-17

The  drygear® strain wave gear is attractive because of its  especially compact design. The use of lubrication-free, high-performance polymers makes gear assembly very easy. In addition, the optimised use of tribo-polymers has improved smooth running, backlash and service life. Along the last axis of an articulated arm, linear robot or delta robot, the strain wave gear can be used before different gripper systems. Here, it performs the task of gripping objects that are not rotationally symmetrical and positioning them exactly.

  • for a direct connection of NEMA17 stepper motors
  • cost-effective automation solution
  • adapter disc for flange-mounting of grippers available
  • low maintenance due to lubrication-free, high-performance polymers
  • can be ordered as a bundle via the robotics platform RBTX.de

For this purpose we have developed the strain wave gear RL-S-17

The strain wave gear implements movements such as those on the fifth robot axis, and many other durable and cost-effective automation applications. Due to their components, the igus strain wave gears are characterised by freedom from lubrication as well as friction and wear resistance. At the same time, the use of polymers enables an extremely compact design and cost-effective manufacture.

After active research and strain wave gear refinement, operating smoothness, backlash, and service life have been improved with technical design optimisation and material selection. The new strain wave gear can also be adapted to a stepper motor or other motor types. It is based on the NEMA17 installation size and was developed in such a way that a high ratio of 28:1 can be shown. This has been tested in our own test laboratory at a service life of 1 million cycles, a load of 1.5Nm and a speed of 6rpm.  These development steps are already planned for the NEMA23 installation size.
